Fast Facts/Arguments for Vegetarianism:
* 20 million people die of malnutrition each year, whereas 100
million can be adequately fed if Americans reduced their meat
intake by 10% (with respect to the land freed up, ie: land for
cattle vs. land for farming).
*Percentage of corn grown in US eaten by people: 20%, the other 80%
is consumed by livestock.
*Percent of US topsoil lost to date is 75%, where 85% of that loss
is directly caused by livestock raising.
*1,000 species per year go extinct in the tropical rainforests due
to land destruction for meat grazing and other uses.
*Women who eat meat daily versus those that eat it less than once a
week have a 3.8 times greater risk of breast cancer.
*Men who consume animal products and flesh daily versus those who eat
it sparingly have a 3.6 times greater risk of fatal prostrate
cancer.
*Percent of US antibiotics fed to livestock is 55%.
*Penicillin resistance increased 78% from 1960 to 1988. Europe
responded by banning the use of antibiotics to livestock, while
the US still completely supports it.

My personal (family) recipes:
Mock Meat Pie (Delicious!)
INGREDIENTS:
3 - 4 tablespoons of Italian breadcrumbs
2 -3 tablespoons of parmesan cheese
1 cup of mashed potatoes
1 cup of soaked bulgar wheat
2.5 cups of hand-crumbled MorningStar Breakfast Patties
1/2 cup-1 cup of pre-cooked onions
dash of marjoram (if you have it)
dash of sage
Vegetable broth (I use Swanson Veg. Broth in a can - you'll probably
need two cans)
Betty Crocker pie crust
DIRECTIONS:
-cook onions
-cut pototoes into small pieces and place in large pot of boiling
water, when soft, mash them
-cover and soak 1-2 cup of bulgar wheat in hot water (becomes 1 cup)
-while your waiting for the onions and potatoes to cook, prepare pie
dough.
When all the preparations are done, combine all the ingredients in a
large pot, and cover with enough vegetable broth to make it "soppy".
More is better than less, because all you do from here is simmer
it down as dry as it will get. It will stay pretty wet, takes
around ten minutes.
Place ingredients inside pie dough, and place in oven until the crust is golden brown.
Grandma Soup (Modified easy family recipe)
This recipe goes well with the Mock Meat Pie and takes nothing to
prepare it!

1 can of sweet corn
1 lb. of shell, spiral, etc... pasta
1 can of red kidney beans (or any beans you prefer)
Optional: 1 package of Morningstar Breakfast Patties
Salt and Pepper to taste
Water
DIRECTIONS:
cook pasta al dante (slightly tough)
add pasta, corn, tomatoes and accompanying liquid, beans, extra water (to desired level), and defrosted breatfast patties.
Simmer down a little, spice up, and serve!
Add extra ingredients if the proportions are off.
